Nostalgia

This cup is not just a cup. This cup sat on the table next to the daily newspaper that was read by my Grandma every morning before the sun popped over the mountains. This cup held her coffee. This coffee left stains in this cup that over time was unable to be removed from the daily scrubbing. This cup brings so many memories.

My grandma loved my unruly curly hair and my smile. My grandma didn't tell me she loved me very often, but she didn't need to.  She had the best sense of humor. She could talk for hours and never bore you for a second. She had a way of making you feel important and special. She was the best cook. When you drove in her car she had to use a screwdriver to turn on the headlights. She was the best gardener. She never missed the evening news, no matter what.

I wish I could drive down her street and see her walking her dog again. I wish I could see her out watering the lawn or checking the roses. I wish I could hear her and Grandpa banter back and forth. I wish I could see her wrapped up in the blanket that I made her years ago. I wish I could sit at the kitchen table and listen to her speak. I wish I could watch her apply red lipstick in the bathroom. I wish I could watch her hold this cup again.

It is amazing what feelings can come when you are stumbling online and you come across a photo of a cup.

What a neat cup with lots of great memories. It does remind me of something my Nana would have. For my wedding present my grandpa gave me these very beautiful & delicate serving plates for dessert. Each plate has a different colored pastel rim with a different flower in the center. Its funny the things you remember & cherish about your grandparents.

Funny story, I was at a thrift store yesterday, and I saw the green bowl set that matches this cup. My grandma had these cups and the bowls to match it. Definitely brings back memories.

Love this post. My parents have the full set of dishes except for the cups that went to my dads church (I think). Anyway, my parents moved on to a fancier stoneware years ago but have the old ones in the cupboard just in case. I find myself pulling out the old medium sized white plate with the green flowers on it whenever I visit. Nothing like comfort dishes!

Wow, what a beautiful post Linds...seriously, you brought tears to my eyes. Isn't it the silliest things that bring about such strong feelings?
